저자들을 잠깐 소개하자면,
안용 선생님을 비롯해서 장지수, 심찬식, 최원규, 최원철, 이호연, 강호영 선생님 등 국내 최소침습 척추수술에 대가라고 불리우시는 분들이 집필을 하셨습니다. 영어로 된 교과서임에도 불구하고 70%상의 저자가 한국 의사들이라는 부분이 좀 놀랍네요. 좀 더 구체적인 특징은 대부분의 한국 저자들이 대학병원 소속 의사들이 아니라 척추전문병원 의사들이라는 사실입니다.

Chapter 1- Diagnosis and treatment of spinal pain
본 쳅터에서는 spinal pain 의 분류와 정의를 하고 있습니다. 표1 에 보면 환자의 에피소드 기간에 따라서 요통을 분류 해 놓았네요. 그리고 급성 요통의 3가지 카테고리도 제시하고 있습니다. 그리고 표 2번과 3번에서는 급성 요통의 진단과 치료에 대한 내용과 요통을 진단할 때 급한 경우와 그렇지 않은 경우를 짚어 볼 수 있도록 관련 내용을 상세하게 기술 해 두었네요.
그리고 통증의 history를 정리하는 방법과 통증의 양상을 알아보기 위한 신체검사 방법들이 깔끔한 표로 잘 정리가 되어 있습니다.
이 밖에도 신경 주변의 혈관 분포를 나타내주는 그림들, 진단 방법으로서의 MIR, CT 등이 어떨 때 사용 되어야 하는지 그 적응증 또한 표로 잘 기술 해 주었습니다. 그리고 진단을 위한 신경차단술에 대한 내용도 표와 그림으로 설명이 잘 되어 있습니다.
마지막으로 표 40번에서는 요통의 원인과 형태를 특징적으로 잘 분류하여 구분 해 주고 있습니다.
